To CJ. from R.{Sir Henry Royce} Copy to WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} " DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} " BY X3588 X4219 ORIGINAL RECEIVED 25 NOV 1921 RE 15 H.P. LORRAINE-DIETRICH. This is a car comparable in size with our "Goshawk II". Though called 15 H.P. it is over 20 H.P. R.A.C. rating, about 10% larger in capacity than "Goshawk II". From Mr. Elliott's report I understand this chassis has many omissions when compared with the "Goshawk", for instance:- No detachable head. No lubrication to the rockers and ends. No provision for catching the oil near the rockers. Exposed valve rods. Zenith carburettor - not good enough for full throttle slow speeds. No extra provision for easy starting or running with bad fuel. Ignition plugs in an oily position, probably prone to detonations. Valves in cages as in Buick - a bad fault. (Engine very like Buick but scarcely as good as their model of several years ago.) Petrol near starter motor commutator. Exhaust pipe too near dynamo. No device for controlling cooling water temperature. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
