[Handwritten at top] x239 LOVRE I should like to discuss this HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} LeC.3829 [Typed] To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner}1/HP.27.10.34. c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} re Thermoflex Bellows Water Pump - LeC.3829. We have examinedthe parts after the preliminary test and have some suggestions, to overcome the leakage and the heating up of the thrust collar of the spindle. The carbon ring which is attached to the bellows should have ample clearance on its inner guide. The face of the rotor should be sandblasted and brought to a mirror finish, and bedded to the face of the carbon ring. In order to reduce the heating of the thrust collar the spring inside the bellows can be reduced to 6 lbs. and the shrouding on the rotor cut away, as per the sketch. These experiments can be tried forthwith. [Handwritten addition] ALSO [Typed] Will you please make a pump spindle in nitralloy steel and a rotor in phosphor bronze. We do not wish to perpetuate stainless steel for the rotor. Enc. Sketch. E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} | ||
