Dear Robotham,
Many thanks for yours of the 15th September, Ref. RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}3/Dn.
Speedometers.
Whilst I appreciate your observations, without wishing to make any excuses there are extenuating circumstances in the case of the instrument No. Z.183 under notice. Thank you for kindly promising to send along some new Speedometers from your Stores - these will be most helpful for our purpose. I will arrange to have them adjusted to suit the gear ratios of your various experimental cars if you will be good enough to furnish me with the necessary data for this purpose. There is one modification I would like to have made to these instruments in view of the present black-out conditions, i.e. to luminize each pointer and the 20 and 30 markings. I have adopted this procedure in the case of the instrument on my own car and find it effective and the only solution to the black-out difficulties. May I offer to treat your own and any of your colleagues' instruments similarly?
