To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} X/113 Cricklewood, July 27th. Phantom III. C. rang me up this morning. Their London trials car turned round on the road when the brakes were applied hard at 60-70 M.P.H. Fraser, the driver, apparently was travelling all out and suddenly realised that a railway crossing was close at hand. His remarks are that the car swung round pivoting from the front. C. considered it to be dangerous and wanted to know if we had experienced it; I told him no. Also, whether I considered that it would be safe for a Phantom III that was going abroad to go before having alterations to the brakes. I told him there was no reason why it should not be safe. With regard to their trials car, I asked him to send it to Lillie Hall and let Archer examine the brakes. It would appear that there is too much front braking with sudden application which of course is dangerous. Can this be reduced easily? C. also asked me about valve springs breaking. Is this of late, or the old type. | ||
