328.202 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}10/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 21st April, 1937. F.O. Hickling, Esq., Messrs. Ransome & Marles Bearing Co.,Ltd., NEWARK-on-TRENT. Dear Hickling, Many thanks for your letter of the 19th, and the test bearing on which you have done some prodigious running. As you say, the condition is surprisingly good. From examining the tracks of the outers, there does not seem to be the usual heavy marking in one position only. I presume that during the test the outers were stationary, or do you think they could have crept round slowly ? Would you also let me know whether you assembled the bearing with a slight pre-load, as the mark-ing on the inner tracks do not resemble those on the journal side of the pinion bearings? Hoping to see you shortly, Yours sincerely, | ||
