-2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/R.12.2.37. Test B. 18 seconds. (3) 5ºHelical gears in Aluminium casing. Test A.{Mr Adams} 70 M.P.H. 15 secs. @ 1000 R.P.M. Gears rattle from 500/2000 R.P.M. Test B. 13 secs. (4) STRAIGHT. gears in brass casing. Test A.{Mr Adams} 70 M.P.H. 5 secs @ 500 R.P.M. Gears rattle from 500/2000 R.P.M., worst @ 1200 & 1900 R.P.M. Test B. 1 sec. All 4 pumps were assembled free, with the same amount of back lash and end play. (5) 22ºHelical gears in brass casing.(2 pumps identical) Test A.{Mr Adams} 1st pump. 70 M.P.H. 5 secs. @ 500 R.P.M. Gears very quiet. Test B. 3 secs. (5a) As above, but fitted to 5 B.IV having no baffle in sump. Test A.{Mr Adams} 70 M.P.H. 5 secs. @ 500 R.P.M. (Oil cold) 70 " 8 " @ 500 " (Oil hot). Test B. 3 secs. (5b) 2nd Pump as (5) on 5.B.IV. Test A.{Mr Adams} 70 M.P.H. 3 to 5 secs. @ 500 R.P.M. Test B. 3 secs. Equally as good as the first pump for silence & priming. | ||
