Revision of the programme for the Bentley 50 chassis and measures to ensure schedule adherence.

Vickers}14.3.38. BENTLEY 50. With reference to BY.4/G.11.3.38. in regard to the specification and programme for the above chassis. I fully agree that it would be desirable to revise the provisional programme given to/Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, but before we are committed in any way it should be clearly understood that all concerned must assume the responsibility for ensuring that their particular sections are completed strictly to schedule. As you are aware, I gave a completion date for the Bentley III chassis at the first meeting; this information, however, was circulated and the responsibility for progressing everything was left to my department. The designs and detail drawings were not days but weeks overdue, and thus it was necessary for my staff to roam all over the D.O. urging detail drawings, etc.; this, as you will agree, is most undesirable and as a result it was necessary to work excessive overtime in order to maintain the original promise for delivery; these expenses are, of course, charged to the Experimental Department. To prevent a recurrence of the above I suggest that a meeting of the parties concerned be arranged early this week to review each section separately and to arrive at a date with which we are all in agreement. It is most important that this date be fixed as quickly as possible in order that we may obtain the necessary machine assistance from Production, who are now working to a period production schedule.
