X. 4333. EFC. {E. Fowler Clarke - Electrical Engineer} BY9/H. 13. 8. 24. X. 4333. 20 HP. CHASSIS. DYNAMOS. With reference to the proposal I recently made to try out some dynamo brushes for the above dynamo from the point of view of reducing the resistance to sliding between the brush and the brush holder, we are sending you herewith brushes which have been prepared in two different manners, that is, partly polished and fully polished, to enable you to try out same under running conditions. It should be noted that the brushes will be somewhat slacker in the brush holders than standard, as the polishing operation has removed a certain amount of material. This particular matter would not arise if the brushes were standardized, as an allowance would be made for polishing. There is no doubt at all but that the brushes have a considerably improved appearance and in my opinion have very much reduced resistance to sliding in their holders. The result of this would be that the brush holder springs holding the brush down to the commutator would give better contact between the brush and the commutator than with our present standard type.
