Dear Sirs, With further reference to the writer's visit to your Works on January 23rd, we have much pleasure in enclosing herewith a scheme for embodying Humfrey-Sandberg Clutches in your constant mesh third gearbox. A description of the scheme is attached to the drawing. It will be noted that the clutches and controls form a complete unit on a double splined sleeve which goes on to the modified secondary shaft. This scheme ensures that all thrusts in the clutches are kept self-contained, and not transmitted to the gearbox casing. The clutches have a torque rating of about 5000 lbs.-ins., and should be quite strong enough to stand up to the duty required. Without a drawing of the whole gearbox, as asked for in our letter of January 30th, we cannot be | ||
