STUB AXLE PIVOTS. X8420 X9940 49

It will be remembered that the front axle pivot bearings have always been a source of trouble, and for the Goshawks with front wheel brakes we have provided an entirely fresh scheme.

Owing to the front wheel brakes increasing the twist on the vertical pivot joint we find the 40/50 with front wheel brakes is slightly worse than the old standard. We have however just found how by modifying these pivots the area can be increased by about 75%, so that the load per unit area on these vertical bearings will be reduced to very little over half.

We have also made some other modifications which we hope will be found better than our present practice. They should be tested at the earliest possible minute. We think they do not need new forgings, and if found superior they should be made standard and fitted to production cars at the first possible moment.
