Dear Sirs,

We thank you for your letter of the 14th. June. We have now completed tests on the two sets which you kindly loaned to us for test purposes.

We have decided to keep the Model, type 297 (7 valve), and have arranged for a covering order to be issued.

We are returning the type 101 (6 valve) set immediately.

With regard to the performance, we find that interference from outside sources are rather severe and difficult to overcome, and from this point of view, neither set is up to the standard set by the Ferranti radio. With regard to the control head, we think the appearance of the dial is good, however, the position of the wave change switch control knob makes for rather an ugly appearance when let in to the Rolls-Royce instrument board. On most sets we test, we find a weakness in the method of locating these control knobs; the grub screws are always too small and fail if the cable becomes at all stiff. We have had to fit a new one in your model 297. We find the set selective and easy to tune.

With regard to your new 8 valve model, which you are shortly introducing, we shall be pleased to give it a trial when it is ready.

Yours faithfully,
FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
