400f Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Wym.{G. Harold Whyman - Experimental Manager} c. Log Book. 12.B.V. 19.6.39. The following points were noted in connection with this car during the week-end:- GEARBOX. Rattles in the gearbox on clutch engagement when in second speed. Tendency to crash when changing from second to direct. Stiff changing gear from overdrive into direct. BRAKES. Require too much pedal pressure, jaggers on the pedal. STEERING. There is excessive friction somewhere in the steering of this car. ENGINE UNIT. Automatic start is far too weak. Hesitation experienced on the pick-up, hot or cold. This is rather like the hesitation experienced on 8.B. before going to France and may be electrical and not carburation. There is a marked period above 3,500 r,p,m.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} which spoils the high speed smoothness of the car. SUSPENSION. Seems unnecessarily hard in the soft position on the front. CLUTCH. The clutch is not as good as the average semi-centrifugal to which we have recently become accustomed. There is a high pitch whistle or squeak from the engine unit which may be the pump.
