To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from EFC. c. Mr. Brock. X8783do EFCL/T21.1.28. CUSTOMER'S FAULTY DYNAMO EN.75.X. EX CHASSIS 49.MC. This appears to be a case of the machine having become overheated, just sufficiently to melt the solder at the commutator, by running for a fairly long period at speeds in the neighbourhood of that corresponding to the peak output of the machine. The appearance of the surfaces of the brushes and commutator suggests that the output was rather high, although the control brush setting is such that on an average machine the output would have been only a little on the high side. Carbon dust has bridged the insulation of all three terminals, and the control brushes are very much worn, but the machine otherwise appears O.K. We return the machine to By.{R.W.
