DISCUSSION ON ARMAMENT WORK.
HELD ON AUGUST 13th. 1940.

HALF INCH GUN.

The present position of this gun was discussed. Ve. said that he did not think it was necessary to make fundamental changes in design at this juncture, as there were many things to be tried which might cause the mechanism to function satisfactorily.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} recommended that alternative designs would be put in hand as an Insurance Policy.

In view of the difficulties encountered, Ve. recommended that the material in hand for fifty half inch guns should be rough machined only.

Freeman and Llewellyn are coming on Thursday and the half inch gun should be available for demonstration.

40 mm. GUN.

The position of the guns for service trials for the Admiralty, was discussed. Drawings for the cradles have now been finished, which completes instructions for these guns and HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} is urging three sets.

He is making pieces necessary to adapt these pieces to the Oerlikon mounting. The L.M. & S. are making the first drain-pipe mounting complete.

Fraser Nash is submitting a list of parts, in the manufacture of which he would like assistance, in order to produce his power-driven turret.

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} emphasized that we should get no more aluminium for the cradles after the first 50 guns. Ve. said he would complete the design of his lightened brass cradle. He has also got an alternative design of automatic feed for the Navy.
