Dear Sirs,

With reference to Mr Bentley's stay here, the following conclusions were arrived at during his visit.

Standard electro-motors of moderate size and speed are best made 4 pole inter-pole type, and for economy of space & weight the yoke to be of octagon form the extremity of which is turned inwards so that the holes to receive the bearings can be drilled & tapped right through the steel. The magnet limbs of both the main magnets and the inter poles can be cast solid with the yoke. The pole shoes which are laminated on the main magnets and solid on the inter poles would in each case be secured by long bolts passing through the length of the magnets. The drilling of these long holes presents some extra work which is well justified by the advantage of seeing whether the magnet limb is sound, and it meets Admiralty standard requirements and has many other substantial advantages.
