- 8 - to L.E.C. 2067. Flywheel & clutch, Simplified clutch stop to L.E.C. 2080 & L.O.P. G.73748. The clutch has slipped twice during the continuation of the test, when picking up in top gear. This has not been excessive, & we have not been able to reproduce it at will. The clutch generally has been very smooth in action. There has been no sign of jaggers, & since the adjustment of the clutch stop, we have had no further trouble with the clutch not stopping when hot & declutched. Outside examination of the clutch, levers & thrust race shews them to be in good condition. We have not been able to ascertain the cause of slipping from an outside examination. Standard engine/coupling, fabric This since our last report has sheared the rivets holding the plates to fabric, which has caused several layers of the fabric to give way, & from the appearance of it, it will very quickly deteriorate. This remained in good condition up to 9,000 miles approximately. Sphere & universal coupling. There has been no trouble with the universal coupling throughout the test. It is still free from knocks, & from outside test there does not appear to have been any wear in the bearings. The sphere from an outside examination appears to be in quite a good condition. Lightened front axle, G.73975, machined all over. From observations we cannot trace any distortions having taken place. This appears to be in a sound condition. Front brake operating shafts on axle. We cannot trace any wear having taken place in the bearings, & the shafts have operated statisfactorily during the test. Axle pivots, with modified operating shafts with larger bearings & lubrication on top of pivots to EX. 951. Front brake pull rods to N.S. 1780, otherwise to L.O.P. G.72403. Lean of pivots 0.150". The bearings of pivots are still very good. We cannot trace any signs of wear. The lubrication has been satisfactory. The wear on the pull rods has been very little. It has only been necessary to adjust these once during the test. A slight amount of wear has taken place in bearing of O.S. operating shaft. The N.S. is O.K. Steering arms, side steering tube & cross steering tube. The bolts holding steering arms have remained secure during the test. Very little wear has taken place in ball ends of cross steering tube. The amount of slack taken up has been approx. 1/4 of a turn of the adjusting screw. The ball ends are in good condition. The side steering tube springs are still O.K. Front road wheels, parallel track. We have not noticed any detrimental results to tyres by using the parallel track. From our measurements taken at finish of test, we cannot find any alteration in the track of the wheels. | ||
