To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. to CJ. c. to Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} X3298 COPY. EFC2/T7.8.19. X.664. BATTERIES X3398 X949 X.3398. X.1680. We have recently received three further chassis lighting and starting batteries. TUDOR BATTERY. The new Tudor battery seems a very much better job altogether than that of the previous type. It is a self-contained battery in a case, the arrangement of cells being (separate) as we have specified. The overall dimensions of the battery are 21.5" long by 7.25" wide by 8.43" high (to top of terminals). Weight of battery is 97 1/4 lbs. This is considerably above our specified limit of weight. So far we have only carried a continuous low rate ampere hour capacity test, and we find this to be in the neighbourhood of 70. The battery is, perhaps, unnecessarily large and heavy. The cell to cell connections are a particularly sound, good job, and the whole battery gives the appearance of having very good work put into it. The vents seem particularly effective in preventing spraying. The usual further tests are proceeding on this battery. We shall probably arrange with the Tudor people to make us up a battery without a case, of dimensions suitable for dropping into the box to be carried in the rear portion of the frame, as described in Mr. Elliott's note E2/G26.7.19. We shall do this also with the Chloride people, and therefore Cont | ||
