Design improvements for injector pumps, specifically the relief passage and needle valve.

injector so that its discharge characteristics may be directly compared with those of a Bosch pump.

The square relief passage in the plunger (Fig.1) is difficult to manufacture and cracks may develop at the corners, hence it is suggested that the pump be tested with a plunger having a round relief passage and unless the square hole is definitely better it should be discarded.

With so short a pipe line between the pump and injector an unloading valve is hardly necessary and its mission would enable the Volume of oil under pressure to be still farther reduced.

In future pumps, the machining limits governing the fit of the barrel in the pump body, and the lift of the needle valve, must be reduced.
