SILVER WRAITH FRAME.

As received this frame weighed 318 lbs. and had an overall torsional strength of 1,020 lbs.ft./degree.

The following modifications were carried out:-
(1) The rear end of the cruciform was boxed in.
(2) The gussets were welded to the side members along the top of the frame.
(3) The gussets were welded to the side members along the bottom of the frame.
(4) The thickness of the plates in the centre of the cruciform was increased from .170" to .312".
(5) The centre portions of the side members were boxed in with a lattice construction.

Each of these modifications produced some improvement in the torsional rigidity and a table is attached showing the increases step by step together with the increase in weight.
