DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}5/C82-12-20 contd. so that the weight is carried by the ditching board and not by the armouring. In this case we think difficulties will arise when a deflated tyre is placed in position, especially as the large friction plate clamping the wheel centre will not be very suitable for rubbing up and down with the bouncing of the car. The practical way, it appears to us, is to somewhat increase the 4" say to 4½" and retain the spigot, and reckon that the wheel is going to be carried off the armouring.
