Steering wind-up, front-wheel brake testing, and pivot pin bush issues on the 40/50 model.

No. REF: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LCH.4.24. wind-up if the steering wheel is turned when the car is stationary, or the car is moving very slowly. We have sent an axle fitted with brakes and 40/50 pivot lean to France to be tested on the car which is running out there. We feel confident that the tests in France will confirm our tests that we can make the steering on cars fitted with front wheel brakes quite as good if not slightly better than the standard 40/50 HP. as regards road shocks. We have had considerable trouble on cars we are running to maintain the old film on the pivot pin bushes. This has always been a weak point on the standard 40/50 but now that the centres of the bushes have been considerably reduced, and there is the addition of front brakes, the conditions appear to be much worse.
