R.R. 283a (100 T) (S.H 159, 11-8-20) G 2209 X.4215 X.4215 - BLERIOT PHI CUT-OUT. INSTRUCTIONS FOR ADAPTATION OF THIS INSTRUMENT TO THE R.R. STANDARD ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. The Bleriot Phi cut-out should be fixed mechanically in any convenient position in the neighbourhood of the Lucas switchbox. It is necessary to disconnect and remove the Lucas switchbox and to remove the inside of the switchbox from its case. It is then necessary :- (1) To cross-connect the main battery negative terminal to the charging switch sector nearest to it, on the back of the board. (2) To disconnect and insulate one of the green flexible connections of the shunt coil of the Lucas cut-out. The switchbox may then be replaced and connected up very nearly as before, but with the following two alterations:- (1) The positive connection from the dynamo instead of going direct to the positive terminal must go to the outside terminal of the Bleriot Phi cut-out opposite the carbon contact. The main circuit is then completed by taking a wire from the middle terminal of the Bleriot Phi cut-out to the main positive terminal on the Lucas switchbox. (2) In addition it is necessary to connect the remaining terminal of the Bleriot Phi cut-out to the dynamo negative terminal on the switchbox. These connections are illustrated in the accompanying diagram, the alterations to the Lucas switchbox being shown (1) By a thick green connection (2) By crossing out one of the connections to the shunt coil by green lines.
