Warner Gear Co.

I called on them to get further particulars of their over-speed gear. I enclose a rather more understandable print thereof. I shall hope to bring one back, but they are not yet in production.

The interesting features are :-

(1) Helical gears in an epicyclic.
Loads taken by small thrust washers.

(2) Sun wheel mounting restrained by a damper to
cut out rattle on the over-run.

(3) Astonishing overhang of the annulus.

(4) Oiling scheme.

(5) Needle roller bearings running at phenomenal speeds.

(6) Small dimensions generally. This is the Plymouth
(or 20/25 size).

I don't see that with our four speed boxes this type of gear will appeal to us, especially as the automatic operation necessitates a free wheel, but it should teach us what development can do to make things that seem impossible to us work, and work well.

We can test to destruction on the back of a 20/25 gearbox.
