Dear Sir:-

Re: Master Primer

We are sending under separate cover a Master Primer, for which Mr. Royce asked in his letter R2/G26.7.20.

We are sorry that delay has occurred in sending this since I referred to it in my letter re. Primers of August 23rd. The sample arrived while I was on my vacation and dispatch has been delayed because of other work.

We enclose herewith a blue print (E-17155) submitted by the manufacturers of the Master Primer, showing our Induction pipe and their proposed method of attaching it.

It will be noticed that they show it attached to the induction pipe at an impossible place, but I think Mr. Hives will be able to see where it can best be attached.

Also, no method is shown of holding the primer itself, and apparently the makers generally depend on the stiffness of the copper pipes to support the primer. This does not seem desirable, and we think that a little bracket should be made to hold the primer from the frame.

Since Mr. Royce requested this primer for the purpose of Mr. Hives, we think that the sample should be sent to the attention of the Experimental Department.

The principle of the primer is that it forms virtually a small over rich carburettor, in which the petrol is boiled at starting by means of an electric heating coil.

Very truly yours,
ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, Inc.
