Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/CTS.{C. Trot Salt - Carburation}19/KW.25.7.34. Competition Bentley. Chassis No. B-35-AE. (Customer - E.R.Hall). Unit B-11. Spec. HC/WSC.{W. S. Cassel}4/LP.{Mr Lappin}23.7.34. Preliminary tests have been carried out on the above unit as follows - 6 hours light running, with gradually increasing load, following by 1 hour endurance. 45 minutes at 4000 R.P.M. } 10 " " 4250 " } Full Throttle 5 " " 4500 " } Dismantled for inspection: No. 3 big end bearing showed slight signs of picking up, due to foreign matter circulated by the oil system (engine). 1 new bearing fitted to No. 3 big end, after which engine received further light running, followed by final power check. Engine Gears. Very good, having had no further attention since 1st assembly. Oil Consumption. During the 1 hour endurance as specified above, the total oil consumption was .75 pint. The extra oil tank has been tested as follows:- Total capacity = 1 1/2 gallons; actually carries 1 gallon when filled to the lip of the filler cap. With the oil temperature in this tank at 50°C. and the engine running at 3500 R.P.M. (full throttle) the time taken for 1 gallon of oil to empty into the sump = 3 1/2 minutes. For this test the filler cap was removed. This cap is being modified to incorporate an air vent instead of the "Schrader" tyre valve. | ||
