RE CHASSIS 1 EX. - GENERAL NOTES. X.2565

I am directed by Mr. Royce to send you information concerning the following points which he would like altered :-

(1) IGNITION WIRE TUBE CLIPS. X.3444
There appears to be no reason for using two bolts on the side remote from the tube. The use of two bolts spoils the ease with which this piece can be made, Mr. Royce thinks, and that one should suffice.

(2) MAGNETO. X.3630
It is not easy to remove the high tension distributor from the Watford magneto. Mr. Royce agrees that a sloping base plate should be tried, such as we have used in the past for other magnetos. This should cant the magneto out sufficiently to allow of straight forward access to the distributor securing screw nearest to the engine.

(3) TOOL KIT AND SPARE PETROL AND OIL. X.3634 X.1102
MR. Royce thinks that something better can be done with the tool kit than the present scheme of a large elaborate leather roll, which takes up a lot of time in use, and gives no indication regarding the correct packing of the tools. He suggests a wooden tray under the front seat, with a specially shaped recess for each tool, perhaps lined out with felt, somewhat similar to the case used for draughtsmen's instruments.
It also occurred to Mr. Royce that spare tins of oil and petrol can be carried in wells under the seats, but as this does not seem possible under the front seat, due to the cross member behind the gear box, he thinks the idea might be applied to the rear seat on the side opposite to the exhaust.
Regarding the tools themselves, the new type broached box spanners were considered good, but should be made lighter. The tommy bars provided are considered to be too short. Mr. Royce wishes them to be made in good steel, if not already so.
The tommy bars might be less in number, say, one large, and one small one, the larger one being used for most of the box spanners in the kit. The thickest tommy bar in the kit is of the right diameter for the large size, but not long enough. The sparking plug spanner should be of the broached type.
Mr. Royce thinks the chisel provided is 2" too long. This tool need only be just long enough to be comfortably held in the hand, and as it is only for emergency use, need have no
