TBB2/L15412. F r Royce Mr Johnson 1716. b 1718. 160 April 15th.1912. Deep frames and trusses. -------------------- The tests with the 12" frame have up to the present been satisfactory in assisting the cure of body rattles. We think it advisable to proceed with a 9" frame with a view to standardization in preference to the 12". We have no serious arguments against the 12" frame except that its appearance is to some extent disproportionate; we think the 9" frame will give sufficient rigidity and a better appearance. The designs for this 9" frame have been despatched to the frame makers. We would prefer to fit a deep frame to a truss, chiefly because a truss is liable to get out of adjustment by wear of pins from vibration etc and also may be tampered with. It should be noticed that the adjustment of the trusses is of extreme importance. The deep frames could be introduced on series 2,100 providing the 10,000 miles rule is suspended. If this scheme were introduced on chassis 2000 it would necessitate scrapping frame members to the value of £525.
