"The New Bentley at Brooklands.

There was much coming and going down at Brooklands the other day, when positively a cavalcade of motor-cars arrived. The two most notable vehicles were a brace of the new Bentleys, both saloons, while a 25 HP. Rolls, a Speed-Twenty Alvis and two Talbots - a "90" and a "95" (both privately owned) completed the party.

Much lappery was then committed, with occasional stops in a remote bay on the Railway Straight. I timed a pale green new Bentley to lap in 1 min. 51 secs., which is not far short of 90 M.P.H., but a colleague tells me that it has been observed lapping faster than this.

An acceleration match from a standing start was apparently held between the "95" Talbot and a Bentley, starting from the aforementioned bay in the Railway Straight. From my coign of vantage I got a pretty shrewd idea that both drivers were really "trying" and the Bentley had already got a lead of some 70 M.P.H. by the time the Byfleet Bridge was reached.

In its present form the new Bentley is extremely attractive. It retains the familiar winged "B" on the rounded, vee-shaped radiator, while the length, breadth and height of the car are roughly the same as those of the Speed-Twenty Alvis. The chassis frame is nicely dropped between the axles, and not-very-large front brake-drums and I-section axle looks nice and light, and one of the cars had huge Whitworth wheels with very big hubs and "knock-on" caps while the other had multi-sided hub caps. One car had a wire grille and the other had radiator shutters.

According to the plate on the dash, the saloon weighs 1,575 kgs. - rather under 30 cwt. - and its French h.p. rating is 19 C.V. The engine is, to all appearances, a "hotted up" 25 HP. Rolls-Royce with two carburettors.
