With still further reference to the above, and your ROY {Sir Henry Royce} /JT2/7.1.29, there can be no doubt that there was something wrong with the instrument during our test after receipt back from the makers. We have now tested a considerable number of these instruments on the bench, in which the instruments are driven positively (not from a cable at all) from a shaft running in synchronous step with the Derby Corporation mains, and it is therefore immediately apparent when an instrument is in error because when O.K. the reading is perfectly steady. Any irregularity immediately indicates something wrong. It would probable be to their own interest to examine the instrument internally and make sure that all is O.K. before returning same to us.
