From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Ey. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Dn. c. to Rn.{Mr Robinson} Re. Lamps for Bentley Car. We have tried a car with the suggested wire grilles over the lamps and over the horns. The impression at the Works confirmed by Rn.{Mr Robinson}, is that it would be a mistake to adopt any of these embellishments. We think that the wire grille in front of the radiator is quite enough wire on the front of the car. As regards the horns for the Bentley. These will be identical to the 20/25, but in the case of the Bentley the horns will be fixed on to the lamp brackets similar to the 40/50. As regards lamps. Lucas have submitted to us an improved lamp. These lamps are 6 lbs/pair lighter than those we use on the 20/25. The lamps have a deeper reflector bowl which gives them a more streamlined appearance. We have a set fitted to a car and consider that they suit the lines of the Bentley car better than the standard 20/25 HP. lamp. The side lamp and tail lamp will be similar to the standard 20/25 HP. We have not yet got a definite price from Messrs. Lucas for these headlamps. They were not in a position to give us a price until they had tooled it up and they did not wish to do this unless we were interested. Technically we approve of the headlamps, side lamps, tail and stop light (this is supplied by Butlers). As Sales always order lamps for the cars we assume that they will get into touch with Messrs. Lucas and satisfy themselves as regards price and as regards deliveries for these parts for the first cars. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
