To Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/IMW.{Ivan M. Waller - Head of Chateauroux} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. Chateauroux. 4ouR. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.7/MH.{M. Huckerby}2.11.38. We have received your memo of 30th. Oct., for which we thank you, and do not consider the temperature control satisfactory. From your figures there is a variation in top water temperature (top tank temp.) of at least 12°C and a similar variation in readings on the car thermometer - also there is a difference as between the top tank figure and the instrument board thermometer reading. You will recollect that this temperature variation did not exist during our tests with 8.B.V. at Brooklands, and accordingly we think that the thermostat is not functioning satisfactorily. We are therefore sending you another thermostat unit and wish you to fit this to the car and return its present unit to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. for examination - we would like to hear from you as to the temperatures which are obtained with the new unit fitted. Will you please let us know whether you consider the undershields adequate on 8.B.V. as we gather that your running has included a good deal of wet weather.
