DY.{F R Danby} FROM PA{Mr Paterson}/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} C. to EG. WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} H ORIGINAL EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}1/W21.10.32. BENSPORT RADIATOR AND SHUTTERS. We sent you last night N. schs. 3562. & 3566. & 3563., which, with N. schs. 3561. & 3565. complete the instructions for the radiator and shutters for Bensport. We have ascertained that no modification is needed for the Roots blower. Slight deviations from the radiator shape have been made from N. sch. 3502. but the outside contour of the bonnet at the radiator has not been altered. We have sent to you the full size wooden mock up of the radiator constructed by Park Wards, and approved by E.U. and C.X., and this should be used as a means of determining the intermediate shapes between the dimensioned contours which we have been able to fix on the schemes. We suggest that the first outer shell be made up by hand, and when the appearance has been got right, the dies to be made from it, as it is an unfortunate feature of the Bentley type of radiator shape that it cannot be determined by a drawing. You will see that we have gone back to the R.I. type of shutter. This is because the oval one has width in section, and will not open so easily under the sloping edge of the shell. The shutters are made of squashed tube, and no riveting is needed. The material is mild steel, chromium plated. All the shutter fittings are either standard 25HP. pieces, or closely resemble them. We have arranged that there shall be only two angles to which the shutters shall be sheared at the top ends, the shutters being divided into two groups each of one angle. The calostat is standard 40HP with the bolting turned round to a different position to the vertical - see N. sch. 3566. We are aware that as drawn the lever pivot pin cannot be withdrawn without removing the calostat from the tank, but this we do not think is of importance. Since we wish to attach the shell to the radiator tank at the bonnet eye, we have had to locate the bonnet at the dash, and are sending you N. sch. 3569. under separate cover shewing how we propose to do this. The mascot we are to use is the standard Bentley B. of which you have an example on the model. The badge is standard 3 litre Bentley, and is also on the model. We require a chromium finish with black enamel. You will no doubt find out from Bentley's from whence they obtained these two fittings. IA/EV.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
