We have for some time now been running our experimental cars using Wakefield's Castrol oil in the engine, gearbox and axle. 49-GB has run 9,000 miles - 4.EX Car has run 4,000 miles - 2.EX Car has run 11,500 miles all using castrol oil. 2.EX Car has been running on castrol oil ever since it was first built. We have examined the parts on this car after 11,500 miles and find that they are in excellent condition. We have not found it necessary to touch any parts on the engine, gearbox or axle. The maximum amount of wear on the cylinder bores at any point is only .0005". The bearings are in perfect condition and do not need attention. We intend to examine this car again after 20,000 miles and then we shall be in a better position to judge the wear compared with the average car run on Prices' OIL. The oil consumption for the 10,000 mile run was - Engine - 6.5 gallons. Gearbox - .25 " Axle - .25 " We consider that the outstanding advantages of Castrol oil are :- 1. Castrol oil will not mix with petrol or paraffin like the ordinary mineral oil or even compound oil such as Prices. This should be a great advantage when starting up a cold engine because any neat petrol which got on to the cylinders would not wash off castrol as it does Contd. | ||
