reporting upon the damper filter hitting the side steering tube.
The figures of the buffer clearances after the packings had been fitted, and the car in running condition, are, O.S. 1.9/16" N.S. 1.1/2". This made the clearance between the bottom of the damper filter and the side steering tube .125" more clearance.
We still however, with the compression of the rubber buffers, hit the filter of the damper. We cannot understand why we should have this trouble on 18.G.IV. as we did not have the same trouble on 19.G.IV. The trouble on 19.G.IV. was the hitting of the bottom bracket of the damper. There must be some difference in the relative outlay of either the side steering tube or the dampers on this car. We may be wrong, but we cannot remember that the filters on the dampers on 19.G.IV. were on the outside of the damper, we are under the impression that the filter was on the underside as on our previous design. We are certain that it is a question of the weaker spring fitted to the front, or the extra load of this body, that is the cause of the trouble.
frequent hitting of side buffers.

We note your remarks re. brakes and as we are going to examine these we will let you know the condition of the drums.
