To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. c. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. Mr.Wakefield Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.15/AP.21.9.37 340 Referring to Standardisation Sheet for cross-bracing at rear of Ph.III. radiator yoke, we note that this shows a saving of 4d. per yoke and a tool cost of approximately £474. We consider that the advantages of the cross bracing at the rear of yoke could very well be obtained by making the yoke as at present with the existing tools and removing the unwanted bracing strips at the front by sawing them out by hand - in this case the only new tools required would be those for making the actual rear bracing strips. Actually, the yoke tested on 35-MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer} car was made experimentally in this manner, and since production have suggested a different and more economical method of manufacturing the yoke, which will in turn require entirely new tools, it seems unnecessarily expensive to make fresh tools for the rear cross bracing yoke until the new method of production (which is under consideration) has been adopted.
