(2) Where strip type bearings are specified it is, of course, necessary to design the Connecting Rod accordingly, since the Big end housing must be sufficiently rigid to resist distortion whilst giving the requisite amount of nap to restore the shape of the bearing to perfect cylindrical form. The process employed in the production of Strip type bearings is as follows:- Op. 1. Material is prepared and cast in the form of a tray which is large enough to make from 6-12 bearings. Op. 2. Then cut into the required length for individual bearings. Op. 3. Surface broach down to the required thickness. Op. 4. In the case of Flanged bearings the Lead Bronze is sheared down to the steel and removed to facilitate flanging. | ||
