- 2 - HY.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer}4/C.9.5.39 (continued) results, and there is no doubt that it is immeasurably superior to the present design with 3/16" rollers. Further tests are to be carried out to break the roller on an overload, but I am satisfied that it is perfectly safe, and I am therefore releasing instructions to manufacture 200 sets for retrospective use. There are over 600 cars in service with the original design of roller, and I am afraid trouble will sooner or later develop on any of them, therefore, as soon as bench tests are completed on the new roller, we ought to face the issue of replacing all those in service.
