1021 BY.14/C.7.2.39. RE:DROPHEAD COUPE FOR BENTLEY. Referring to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}12/E.6.2.39. we shall be in the position of having a Coupe body with a stiff bottom side, which has been produced under our control by Park Wards, on the road early in April. In the meantime I would confirm that the addition of a stabilising bumper has made WXA-79 a reasonable car. We produced a special bumper which has been fitted to the car, it satisfies LA.{L. A. Archer} and as the result of a run which I took with LA.{L. A. Archer} over rough roads, with which I am well acquainted, I am satisfied that the stabilising bumper will make any of the Wraith coupes made with the cut through bottom member satisfactory. We are following this experiment up by trying the effect of a bumper on Sir Herbert Smith's Phantom lll, which has been fitted with one of the worse bodies imaginable, and is at the moment a matter of contention between ourselves and the customer.
