We have to-day received the following telegrams:-

(1) WIRE WHEN 23 EX WILL COMPLETE 9000 MILES.

(2) AFTER YOU HAVE PROVED OUT MODIFIED RADIATOR MOUNTING ARRANGE TO BRING BACK 24 EX CERTAIN PARTS TO BE MODIFIED BEFORE FURTHER RUNNING LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU EXPECT CAR TO RETURN STOP WHAT WAS THE RESULT OF POLICE ENQUIRY.

and we have replied:-

(1) 23 EX 9000 COMPLETED SATURDAY.

(2) 23 EX HELD UP FOR BATTERY SUPPORT RESUME RUNNING TOMORROW STOP 24 EX RADIATOR TESTS NOT FINISHED PROBABLY SATURDAY STOP HAD TO GIVE REPORT ON WORK DONE HERE AWAITING DEVELOPMENTS.

We have not been able to resume the running on 23-EX on our arrival here from Paris, owing to the fact that we found the battery box half hanging off. We reported to you that the lug had broken holding this. The delay has been caused through not being able to get the necessary repair done quickly enough. We have got this finished at last, and shall resume our running in the morning.

Consequently, we have not been able to do very much with 24-EX. We shall be able to finish off the radiator support to-morrow and get along with the tests. We understand by your telegram that as soon as we have done what we can to the radiator, we have to return with the car to Derby.

On our telegram, we stated that the mileage of 23-EX would be completed by Saturday, it may take us a little longer, as I had forgotten that one or two men will have to be held up for 24-EX, consequently the mileage of 23-EX will suffer to some extent, but in any case we should have finished the mileage early next week, say Monday or Tuesday.

Re the investigation by the police of our job here, we have had to give the Chief of the Police at Châteauroux a report on what we do here, as the Chief of the Police at Paris has requested him to give full details re the situation here. We do not think there is any reason to believe that we shall be interfered with, as the Chief of the Police here definitely states that he would be very sorry for us to leave, and that he has no offences upon which he can quote against us. We have his confidence in every way. We are sending you an interpreted report in English of the report we have given him, but in English it is not quite the same. If you wish it, we will send you
