X114 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Std.18/KW. 22nd November, 1935. Messrs. Clayton Dewandre Ltd., Titanic Works, Lincoln. For the attention of Mr. Willet. Dear Sirs, I should very much like to thank you for the attention shown me by Mr. Willet and Mr. Blomeley whilst I was at your Works on Tuesday last, and for the information given me. Confirming our discussion, we are going to send you four Bentley radiator cores as soon as we receive them from the Makers - one in Marston Mark V block, 58 m.m. in depth; one in Marston Mark VI block, 52 m.m. in depth; one in Mark VI block made by the Harrison Radiator Corporation, 52 m.m. in depth, and one in two-row Gallay block. As discussed at your Works, you will carry out tests on these radiators, the results being used for our mutual benefit. We suggest that the trials should give the variation of heat dissipation, water pressure drop and air pressure drop with (a) varying air speeds, (b) varying water speeds, the constant water speed for (a) being 20 gallons/min., and the constant air speed for (b) being maximum obtainable. We also suggest that the "equivalent car speed" is measured for each air speed by measuring the velocity head in front of the matrix. We are also sending you shortly three oil coolers, one marked "For test", the other "For stripping". We should like you to dismantle the latter, fit your experimental wire-wound type of matrix to it (Note: the external dimensions of the re-built cooler must be identical with the original ones) and give us comparative | ||
