40/50 HP CHASSIS SPEEDOMETER.

In order to fit the speedometer with the small type dial, it is necessary to fit new reduction gears in the gearbox, and unless we are to make any scrap, we cannot fit new reduction gears until the commencement of 'H' series.

We do not know what our commitments are as far as the present type of speedometer is concerned, but no doubt ROY. {Sir Henry Royce} will be able to let you know this.

The first chassis in 'H' series should go to test at the end of January next year, and therefore unless you wish us to make any scrap, this will be the point when we commence fitting the new type instruments unless, of course, our commitments with the present type instruments are such that we have to make more of the existing type reduction gears to use up the large type speedometers.

You will no doubt remember that you raised the question of fitting small type speedometers to the Show chassis, and at the time the erection instructions were sent through, we pointed out we did not think we should be able to supply small type instruments.

In view of the information now given us by the Works, it is quite definite that we cannot fit the small type instruments unless you agree for them to be fitted for Show purposes only, and then changed after the Show. This would mean that the hole in the instrument board for the speedometer would need making larger after the Show to accommodate present type instruments.

We should be pleased to have your further instructions in regard to this point as the instructions at present call for small type instruments.
