-2- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Ory.1/MH.{M. Huckerby}17.11.38. The larger "1350" type joint which has been tested on P.III, will on Wraith more than halve the loads on the needle tracks. We have ordered 5 for experimental cars. If they are free from any unforeseen snag, such as vibration, we recommend they are fitted on production at the first possible moment. Hardy Spicer will, for a cost yet to be decided, convert all shafts sent back to the larger joint. Meanwhile we are about to test on the dynamometer, which provides a quick means of determining relative life, various modifications to the small joint to discover why the needles cross wind and indent the tracks or what will overcome it. Until these experiments are complete the larger joint is the only possible change to make, and has the further advantage that a lubricator on the stars provides a means for replenishment with oil at Depots when and if it is required.
