COPY. LABORATORY ADVICE NOTE NO: 4181. MR. TOULMIN. 4th December, 1939. JWS/RP/B. Please receive, herewith:- SCREENWIPER FOR MESSRS. ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. 1 - S.W.4. 12 Volt Screenwiper. L.T. No. 2349. This unit consists of a standard S.W.4. Motor with a primary link of the ball and socket type. The spindle drop arms are fitted with the cone type bearings now usual for Rolls Royce. Both the passenger side and driver side clutch housings have been modified, and two demister air stream ducts to Rolls Royce dimensions have been fitted. The duct dimensions are:- Intake - 1 3/8" diameter. Outlet - 4 5/16" x 5/64". As the outlet area is smaller than the inlet area we consider that the outlet slot should be longer, not only to equalise the areas but also to give what we consider to be a more reasonable spread for demisting a suitable area of the screen.
