5th May 1930.

Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd.,
DERBY.

Dear Sirs,

Replying to yours of the 24th ult., EFC.1/AD, re suggested alteration of design in the plates, our Works say they do not think the suggested alteration would be of much help. The clearance is already 9/32", which appears to be quite ample, and the alteration to the mould would be a difficult matter now.

The reason for our having a uniform slant from the lug to the far corner of the plate was to get a more even current density on the top of the plate. This is only a small point but is technically correct.

With regard to the Chloride Co's remarks about the relative methods of the design of the lid{A. J. Lidsey} as compared with ours, our Works say they cannot agree that our design is less good withstanding vibration. It is not correct to say that our rubber washer is not under compression. From tests we have made we have proved that the rubber gasket joint gives a much better acid tight joint than does the sealing nut, but we shall be very interested to hear what you find.

Yours faithfully,

NATIONAL ACCUMULATOR COMPANY LTD.
