| 2 3 | (Experimental Dept.) Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}/3/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 4th December, 1936. Messrs. C.C. Wakefield & Co.,Ltd., Wakefield House, Cheapside, LONDON. E.C.2. For the attention of Mr. A.{Mr Adams} Limb. Dear Sirs, You will remember that Luen was up here a few weeks ago about the sludge which had formed in a Bentley axle running on Hi-Press. We said at the time that we thought the composition of Hi-Press had altered since we first standardised it. Since you were here we have done considerable further dynamometer testing. Whereas formerly all steel parts in the gearbox would be coloured a dull brown, now they become black, and, in addition, the working parts become filled with sludge after only a few hours running. We are again forced to the conclusion that Hi-Press has changed. Perhaps you will deny or confirm this suggestion. We have heard nothing from Evans since Luen's visit. Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
