PHANTOM ENGINE - ROCKER SHAFT BRACKETS.

Will you kindly note that we should go back as quickly as possible to the use of steel brackets on the Phantom engine. The reason for the change is that at present certain brackets are in mild steel, the balance are in Duralumin, with the result that the different rate of expansion of the two materials prevents correct adjustment of the valve tappets. In addition the rocker shaft tends to be distorted. The main trouble, however, is the holding open of certain of the valves due to the steel brackets near the latter not expanding at the rate of the Duralumin brackets controlling the balance of the valves.

We think the dies which were made for duralumin brackets can be used to produce the parts in steel.
