F.{Mr Friese} Dodd. } Please let me R.{Sir Henry Royce} Childs. } have a report Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} at W. Dictated 29.4.38. Hnl/AH.30.4.38. --- W I P E R S --------- 6115 For batches of bodies recently ordered, we have in mind providing Lucas wipers because we shall be able to buy them at much lower prices than others. But before we commit ourselves we would like to know your opinion of the Lucas wipers which have been fitted to experimental cars. We know that there was some trouble on early examples with the rather crude rubber universal to the driving shaft but we are told this has now been overcome, as has also been overcome the criticism of restriction of wipe area. What we would like to know is whether you consider the wipers you have tried mechanically good enough for standardisation on our batches of bodies. We realize the weather of the past two months or so has not given you opportunities of trying wipers on the road but we are hoping your experience before the present dry spell and bench tests will enable you to give us a useful opinion. In addition, we would be glad to know whether you have tried the latest Lucas FT.67 centre lamp and if so what you think of it. We shall want 250 centre lamps for our batches of bodies and here again think we may do some good in price if we can contract for them with Lucas, but when the FT.67 first came out we heard criticisms that it dazzled on-coming traffic when used as a 'pass' light and that it was not much good in fog. If you will tell us of your experiences we shall be glad. Hn.{F. C. Honeyman - Retail orders} | ||
