ROY{Sir Henry Royce}5/WG{Mr Gill - Financial Director}6.12.27 X4622 X1162 WESTON AND ELLIOTT AMMETERS ---------------------------- You will recollect for the past twelve months we have been fitting Weston Ammeters to the 40/50 HP and Elliott to the 20 HP. Chassis, and I believe it is generally agreed, now Messrs. Elliott have got over their initial difficulties in meeting our requirements, that their ammeters are satisfactory and, one might reasonably say, equal to the American Weston. I think we all agree the importance of fitting only English made instruments to the Chassis, provided they are satisfactory, and now suggest we consider the advisability of confining our Ammeter requirements to English made instruments only. Will you kindly advise if you are in accord. You will recollect, in 1923 R expressed himself in R1/M13123 to ROY{Sir Henry Royce} (copy to E, BY, E, Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}, Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}) as follows: "AMMETER (Weston make) "In view of reports of our chassis coming "from U.S.A, it is desirable that this "should be English if a good one can be "obtained - which I doubt." Since that date we have carried out a lot of experimental work to develop an English made Ammeter. Hence the above suggestion - quite apart from the necessity to-day for fitting English goods to our manufactures where possible. As far as cost is concerned, the two instruments are practically identical. ROY.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
