Dear Mr. Elliott:

RE CARBURETTER SECTION 5080

Have you noticed the new Stewart Warner devices.

(1) Vacuum feed with reduced lag due to toggling springs.

(2) Vacuum "Booster", an injector forming a constant small leak into the manifold to give greater vacuum at low speed full throttle conditions. Also avoiding effect of over-richness at "dumping" periods. (Standard on Franklin cars.)

(3) A vacuum pump (like Cadillac) fitted to replace the present standard A.C. fuel pump and fitting the same flange. This is in parallel with the intake manifold. It seems to me it should be in series between the vacuum feed tank and the intake manifold as otherwise there is a problem in dealing with an explosive exhaust from the pump.

(4) An "electric-carburetter" i.e. one having an electric fuel pump like the Autopulse built into the carburetter.

(5) An "entirely new system" (really an application of the old Leon-Bollee) designed for aeroplanes, and now offered for cars.

This consists of a rich mixture carburetter built into the gas tank, supplying the engine through a super-heating jacket in the exhaust, to a simple mixing valve with damped automatic air valve, at the throttle.

Gets rid of carburetter, feeding system, fuel piping, pilot jet or choke, and difficulty in winter starting. Also claims to get perfect cold-distribution.

All this is in answer to the A.C. fuel pump which has been giving Stewart Warner a black eye lately on the score of price.
