Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/LBH.{Mr Hall - Aero Design Engineer} X 1474. LBH{Mr Hall - Aero Design Engineer} BY/EM9/J.19.12.32. Expansion of Austenitic Steels. As requested by you, we have communicated with Messrs. Thos. Firth & John Brown Limited, with regard to the co-efficient of expansion of their H.R. Crown Steel. They guarantee that the co-efficient of linear of expansion for this material is as follows:- 20-100°C. .0000152 20-200°C. .0000156 20-300°C. .0000159 20-500°C. .0000165 This of course is approximately 40% greater than a .5 Carbon Steel at the same temperatures.
